These organizations will highlight the support that they receive from our generous community while also reminding attendees that "Hunger Has a Local Address." Learn about the ways that St. Andrews By-the-Sea Soup Kitchen and Second Helpings serve our community and see first-hand the creative way that a soup kitchen chef transforms rescued food into an amazing meal. The chef will take the participants through their process and representatives will discuss what food rescue is, the local need for hunger relief, and the impact that Second Helpings and St. Andrew's By-the-Sea have on the community.
Second Helpings rescues food from local retail and grocery stores to distribute to food pantries and soup kitchens throughout Beaufort, Jasper, and Hampton counties. This October, Second Helpings expects to rescue and deliver our 50 millionth pound of food since our inception 31 years ago.
St. Andrew's By-The-Sea Soup Kitchen was founded in 2011 to serve to the food-insecure living and working on Hilton Head Island. Volunteers prepare hot meals to share twice a week in their Celebration Center and distribute perishable and non-perishable groceries to those in need.
